Day 1 School Closing Outlook Results
Forecast Results Issued: Friday, December 19, 2025, 10:24 PM EST
As expected, the brief period of light freezing drizzle that did occur along US-10 on Tuesday night was not impactful enough to result in any closings or delays on Wednesday morning.
It should be noted that our cyan-shaded "Minuscule" risk area is only used in cases where we don't anticipate closures, but can't totally rule out an isolated 1 or 2 occurring; that's why the risk for that particular category is shown as less than 15%.

Day 1 School Closing Outlook
Forecast Valid: Wednesday, December 17, 2025
Forecast Issued: Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 4:12 PM EST

Summary:
There is a “Minuscule” risk of school closures or delays on Wednesday. A light glaze of ice may result in a couple of isolated closings or delays along and North of US-10.
Discussion:
Current computer weather model guidance indicates that an area of light, periodic freezing drizzle may develop this evening and during the overnight hours tonight. This could result in some minor ice accretion across the northern parts of our area, mainly north of US-10.
While ice, even the minor “light glaze” type events, is certainly one of our more formidable school closing threats, and this type of forecast would normally result in a “Limited” risk level, “Very Poor” confidence precludes the introduction of such a risk area at this time. Freezing rain, and even more so, freezing drizzle, is very difficult to predict, and given the limited geographic coverage and brief duration of any potential coverage, we’ve opted to just highlight a narrow swath of “Minuscule” probabilities along and north of US-10, given the non-zero chance for a school closing or delays as a result of the ice, especially on back roads.
