All of the school closings were within our highest risk zones and were very widespread within those regions, with nearly every school closed, so this forecast verified very well overall.

Day 1 Update

Updated Discussion: Based on ongoing Doppler radar signatures and trends, as well as the vast number of schools that are closing across VanBuren, Cass, Kalamazoo, Berrien, and St. Joseph Counties late this evening, we are upgrading many of these areas to our maximum; "Very High" risk category as the continued lake-effect snow and residual effects of the weekend winter storm wreak havoc on back roads.

Forecast Valid: Monday, December 1, 2025
Forecast Issued: Sunday, November 30, 2025, 7:50 PM EST
Forecaster: Jacob Melton

Summary:
Residual impacts on some roadways, especially secondary rural roads, are expected from the winter storm system that impacted the area this weekend. Some school closures and delays are looking likely on Monday morning across parts of West Michigan.
Discussion:
The winter storm system that made its way through the area this weekend dropped a healthy amount of snow across West Michigan, especially for areas near and south of Grand Rapids, where 8-12”+ of total snow accumulation was observed Sunday morning. In addition, some lake effect snow has been ongoing this afternoon and will continue into the early evening before tapering off tonight.
Additional snow accumulations through the evening from the lake-effect snow will be light in nature, generally an inch or less before tapering off by midnight. However, with the high amount of accumulation across portions of Southwest Lower Michigan, it will take some time for crews to clear roadways, especially secondary roadways, across southwestern lower Michigan. For this reason, we have gone with elevated probabilities across St. Joseph and Cass counties, with medium and low probabilities immediately surrounding, across portions of Southwest Lower Michigan.
