School closing chances and the probabilities for delays remain almost exactly the same as yesterday.
The situation is so similar that we are using the same forecast discussion from yesterday to discuss Thursday's risk. See below.
However, we do expect additional districts, especially north of M-46 and in rural areas, to run their buses on paved roads only.
Discussion from Day 1 Outlook for Wednesday 01/24/2024:
School closings are not likely for Wednesday (Substitute Thursday for this discussion). However, school delays are likely due to widespread dense fog south of M-20.
Any school closings that do exist will be extremely localized and isolated and will likely be in northern areas of our coverage area (north of M-20) where temperatures will be under freezing and precipitation in the form of snow is still ongoing at the time of writing. In these areas, some icing potential will exist as water on roadways has the potential to refreeze and create Black Ice.
Widespread dense fog will overspread the areas south of M-20 after about 7pm this evening as rain continues to melt snow pack and relatively high dew points for this time of year contribute to evaporating snow and very low cloud bases.
