Valid Tuesday 01/16/2024

Issued at 5:15pm EST 01/15/2023

Once again, we're leading our School Closing Outlook in an unprecedented streak of High and/or EXTREME Risks. This trend will likely continue through the end of the week.

Scattered to widespread school closures are once again expected for Tuesday as dangerous wind chills continue to impact the southern portions of our coverage area and lake effect continues to impact lakeshore districts. Outside of those areas icy road conditions resulting from snow-pack will lead to additional school closings, though these may be more isolated to widely scattered in nature.

A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for southern counties and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the southern and central lakeshore counties. Dangerously cold wind chills between -5 and -15 degrees are expected through 11am Tuesday. An additional inch or 2 of lake effect snow accumulation combined with snow-packed icy roads will impact travel conditions for the lakeshore and icy roads will impact all other areas.

We are also issuing a School Closing Outlook for Wednesday 01/15/2024. That prediction can be viewed here.
