Summary:
The rest of the workweek should feature calm weather before a more unsettled pattern moves in for the Holiday weekend with multiple chances for rain, storms, and maybe even strong to severe thunderstorms on Friday.
Today 05/22/2024:
Morning clouds will give way to plenty of sunshine and gusty winds later this afternoon. Highs will reach into the mid to upper 60's near the lakeshore and the mid to upper 70's inland. Gusty southwest winds of 10-25 MPH will lead to dangerous swimming conditions at all Lake Michigan beaches to the north of St. Joseph.
Thursday 05/23/2024:
Thursday will feature plenty of sunshine and pleasant conditions across the area with highs in the 70's and less wind. Last day of mild weather before several systems bring more dynamic weather into the region for the weekend.
Friday 05/24/2024:
The primary focus for our forecast is now on Friday afternoon as a cold front will advance into the region and bring chances for showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms, especially across Southwest Lower Michigan, could be strong to severe.
The Storm Prediction Center has outlined a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for severe weather with the primary threat time frame being largely confined to the afternoon hours.
Michiganders need to keep this possibility of severe weather in mind as they make their holiday weekend plans, especially given that many will be participating in camping, boating, and other outdoor activities!
Saturday - Monday:
The rest of the weekend will not be raining the entire time but most days will feature chances for morning and/or evening/overnight rain showers and perhaps isolated thunderstorms.
Highs will be in the upper 70's and otherwise pleasant conditions will be present.
