Day 1 School Closing Outlook
Valid: Monday, February 03, 2025
Issued: Sunday, February 02, 2025 6:37 PM

Summary:
Areas of fog, dense fog, and perhaps even some isolated freezing fog will create scattered, and perhaps, even widespread areas of reduced visibility that could result in delayed starts for schools on Monday morning.
Discussion:
A fairly typical setup for dense fog will exist over much of our area this evening. This setup will be supportive of scattered, or even widespread, areas of visibility that will likely fall under 1/4 of a mile and could even approach near zero at times!

These reduced visibilities will likely result in several delayed starts for students and staff on Monday morning as schools issue 2-hour delays to allow time for the fog to clear prior to sending students out on the roadways.
Isolated freezing fog may also cause some minor ice accumulations and/or black ice to occur along our Northern row of counties north of I-96, and especially near US-10, but confidence in this scenario is too low to warrant the introduction of any school CLOSING risks. Any freezing fog that does develop will increase the chances that schools will delay their start times on Monday morning.
A Dense Fog Advisory has just been issued for much of the area and we anticipate that the remainder of the area will see a similar product issued over the next several hours.

The only other caveat that may support a risk of full school closures tomorrow would be the fact that dense fog is not supposed to clear until late morning and as we approach the Noon hour. This may be too late for schools to utilize the delayed start option. But again, confidence in this scenario is low.
