Questions still exist surrounding the extent of today's severe weather threat. The bottom line is that the day will start dry, but thunderstorms are likely to develop sometime from late this morning into the early-mid afternoon hours.
These thunderstorms will be strong and mature very quickly after development, thanks to the presence of moderate to strong instability (storm fuel) across the area. However, just how strong or potentially severe these storms can get remains in question due to a notable lack of wind shear (change of wind speed and direction with height).
The best chance for a severe thunderstorm or 2 will be along and west of US-131, especially near the immediate lakeshore, this afternoon, but the severe threat may continue to the east of US-131 as well.
Damaging wind gusts of 40-60 MPH are the primary concern with any thunderstorm today; however, all thunderstorms will have the potential to produce gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall and minor flooding, and perhaps some small hail up to 1" in diameter.
