Valid Tuesday 01/09/2024

We've been tracking this winter storm system for some time now. Thankfully, the impacts from this system will not be as widespread as they initially appeared.

That said, 1 to 4 inches of accumulating snow will begin overnight Monday and especially in the early hours of Tuesday morning. By 5am some areas south of I-196 and west of US-127 may have a couple of inches on the ground that could result in some scattered school closures for south-central portions of our coverage area, especially considering the addition travel impacts expected for the evening commute.

Other schools north of I-196 may opt to cancel school tomorrow given the expected travel impacts, especially north of M-46, however, the predictability surrounding this possibility is too low to warrant the introduction of a closure probability at this time.

More widespread school closures are expected for Wednesday, especially north of a Muskegon to Reed City line. Check that graphic at WestMichiganWeather.net/day-2-closings
