Summary:

Additional light lake-effect snow and cold wind chills, which may reach values as low as 10 or 15 below zero could prompt some isolated to widely scattered school closures and/or delays on Wednesday morning.

Discussion:

As aforementioned, cold wind chills, which could fall to values of 10 or 15 below zero, especially along the US-127 corridor and additional lake-effect snowfall of around 1-3 inches along US-31 could prompt a few isolated to widely scattered school closures or delays on Wednesday morning. Near Lake Michigan the relatively warmer lake waters will help to prevent the influx of cold along the immediate lakeshore as wind chills only fall to around zero. However, additional lake-effect snowfall will help make up the school closure/delay potential in this area.

Wind chills, which should fall to around 10 below zero and may even drop to dangerously cold levels of around 15 below zero again on Wednesday morning across parts of the area East of US-131, and especially along US-127.

Across this area East of US-131 we have introduced 31-50% probabilities to account for the risk of scattered school closures and delays Wednesday morning.

A generalized 1-3 inches of additional snowfall with locally higher amounts is expected through 5:00 AM Wednesday morning along and West of US-31.

The threat of wind chills and snowfall will support the risk for additional isolated school closings across the rest of the area with the exception of the areas surrounding the US-131 and I-94 interchange where wind chills will only fall to around zero and new snowfall accumulations should be minimal, in this area we have reduced probabilities to less than 15%.
