Day 1 School Closing Outlook
Forecast Valid: Monday, December 15, 2025
Forecast Issued: Sunday, December 14, 2025, 7:28 PM EST
Forecasters: Jonah Drake

Special Note:
Apologies for the delay on this forecast. I had some personal things today that prevented me from getting this released at our normal time of 4:00 PM for supporters and 7:00 PM for public release.
Summary:
There is a “Minuscule” risk of school closures or delays on Monday. Wind chills and temperatures are warming; however, they remain at levels that are marginally supportive of an isolated closing or delay on Monday morning.
Discussion:
Current computer weather model guidance indicates that our blast of arctic air will begin subsiding during the day on Monday. However, early Monday morning will likely still feature temperatures near zero, and wind chills, especially across the southwestern part of our area, will likely fall below zero. Wind chills near the I-94 corridor, west of US-131, could reach as low as -15°F.
Wind chills this low can sometimes result in at least a couple of isolated school closures or delays. Typically, we like to see wind chills BELOW -15°F for schools to close, so the fact that wind chills MIGHT fall to -15°F leaves us with some confidence questions at this point. Overall, we’re fairly certain that we will not see closings or delays, but the risk is non-zero, especially with several school districts in far Northwest Indiana, where temperatures will be slightly colder, already closing or delaying.
Outside of the shaded risk area, temperatures and wind chills are expected to be too warm to result in any school closings or delays.
