As expected, no weather-related closures or delays were noted in our coverage area today, though some slick/icy spots did cause a few slowdowns during the morning commute, prompting the NWS to issue a Special Weather Statement.
These results are consistent with our "Very Low" risk level that we reserve for events that will rarely actually yield any closings or delays, but the potential is not completely zero.

Summary:
A few slick spots may develop Tuesday morning as a belt of snow, rain, and wintry mixed precipitation moves into the area. While this band will eventually affect the majority of our coverage area on Tuesday, only the areas South of I-96 will see impacts leading up to or during the morning school commute. School closings and/or delays are not expected, but an isolated instance can't be entirely ruled out.
Discussion:
A belt of snow and wintry mixed precipitation is forecast to move into far Southwest Lower Michigan between midnight and 5:00 AM tonight. This precipitation will initially favor an "all rain" mode, but as temperatures cool to near or slightly below freezing after 3:00 AM, especially with northward extent, we will see a transition to a mix of rain, snow, and perhaps even some sleet mixing together.

This wintry precipitation, combined with falling temperatures, will support the development of patchy slick spots on Tuesday morning, especially on rural roads, bridges, and overpasses.
The aforementioned belt of precipitation will slowly overspread more of the area throughout the day, bringing snow and a wintry mix to much of the area, with the exception of Berrien County, where a return to an "all rain" mode is expected thanks to temperatures near or above freezing.
Within the areas that see continued wintry precipitation, impacts to the school commute are not expected to be timely enough to result in school closures or delays, as precipitation will likely arrive after students and staff are already in school.
